Round 2 Match Preview: Clash in the Capital

The Sydney Roosters go head-to-head with one of four new NRLW franchises on Saturday, making the trip to GIO Stadium for what is lining up to be an electric contest.

Recent History: Sydney Roosters vs Canberra Raiders

Round 2 marks the first ever clash between the two Clubs in the NRLW, with the Roosters travelling down to Canberra to face the Raiders in their first home game of the Women’s season.

In the opening round of the competition, the Roosters put on an impressive display against the Brisbane Broncos to secure a 36-18 victory, while the Raiders fell to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 28-14 at PointsBet Stadium.

But with three former Roosters (Simaima Taufa, Zahara Temara and Chanté Temara) in their squad, the Raiders have plenty of experience as they continue to seek their first NRLW competition points.

How They Line Up

Head Coach John Strange has made one change to the team following Round 1, with Amber Hall ruled out for the season after sustaining a lisfranc injury against the Broncos.

Otesa Pule comes into the second row to replace Hall, while Alexandrea Kiriwi will make her NRLW and Club debut off the interchange bench on Saturday.

Corban Baxter will line up at fullback once again this week, with Brydie Parker and Jayme Fressard on the wings and Isabelle Kelly and Jessica Sergis in the centres.

Tarryn Aiken and Jocelyn Kelleher will be the halves pairing, while Millie Boyle, Keeley Davis and Mya Hill-Moana link up in the front-row. Pule joins Olivia Kernick in the second row, with Keilee Joseph completing the starting 13 at lock.

The interchange bench features Shawden Burton, Pani Hopoate, Kiriwi and Joeli Morris, while Teuila Fotu-Moala, Lily Rogan, Tyler Bentley and Amelia Pasikala have all be named on the extended bench.

Raiders NRLW Head Coach Darrin Borthwick has named an unchanged line-up following the team's opening round defeat to the Sharks.

Key Match Up: Tarryn Aiken vs Zahara Temara

A few weeks ago, they were halves partners plotting to take down the NSW Sky Blues to claim the Women’s Origin Shield, this week they’ll meet for the first time in new Club colours.

In the opening round of the competition, Aiken was dominant, running for 124 metres and breaking seven tackles to guide the Roosters to an emphatic victory away from home.

The Raiders Skipper was also strong in Round 1, notching 77 run metres, breaking four tackles and forcing one goal-line drop-out.

With plenty to play for on Saturday, be sure to keep your eyes on these two dynamic playmakers who have the ability to lift their teams in attack.

Final Verdict

The Roosters continue their quest for another title against a new opponent in Canberra this week as they aim to secure consecutive wins before they host their first home game on August 3.
