The Sydney Roosters were gallant in their 30-26 defeat at the hands of the Newcastle Knights on Thursday night at McDonald Jones Stadium in what proved to be a high-scoring contest.
The Tricolours started hard and fast, with a classy finish on a fifth-tackle in the opening minute seeing Turoa Williams score in the corner, before Ethan Clark-Wood was the beneficiary of a short dropout soon after.

A break from Kyron Fekitoa saw Callum Gromek score next as the Red, White and Blue continued their strong opening charge before the centre himself bagged a four-pointer as the Roosters cruised to a 26-6 lead at the break, with Newcastle scoring late.
However, the tide turned in the second half as the home side gained momentum, scoring four unanswered tries with the Red, White and Blue unable to reply in the final ten minutes, with the final score reading 30-26 at full-time.
The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup side will face the Parramatta Eels at Wentworth Park in Round 7 on Sunday afternoon.

Sydney Roosters 18 def by Newcastle Knights 22
It was the opposite scenario for the Sydney Roosters' Jersey Flegg match against the Newcastle Knights at the Newcastle Permanent Centre of Excellence, with a late comeback unable to yield points in a 22-18 defeat.
A late call-up to the starting team, it was front rower Zack Visconti who scored the first try of the match, however, it was Newcastle who struck back with two tries of their own for a 12-6 lead at the break.

The two sides went tit-for-tat in the second half, with the Knights extending the lead before halfback Levi Conti found the line. Newcastle once again replied in kind, but the never-say-die attitude of the Roosters was alive and well as hooker Alan Holten crossed late in the piece.
